"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong."
According to traditional wisdom, in order to provide for Turkanans we'd need a $20 million dollar international aid effort, providing container ships and aircraft carriers to haul provisions, as well as offer fully staffed warehouse distribution centres.
But I am foolish enough to believe The Lord can do mightier work with some goats.
These are my few loaves and fish. By faith, we are asking the Creator to redeem this land and His beloved people with a gift that will multiply and bring miracles to countless Turkanan's lives.
"The Majestic Goat"
Probably not a saying you've heard before. The goat is a lowly animal. It's not majestic like the eagle, or mighty like a lion.
But this humble animal brings hope and prosperity to many in Turkana. Those, that is, that are lucky enough to shepherd a herd in one of the poorest regions in Africa.
Turkana has a 94% poverty rate, and 76% are food-poor. That means that 3 out of 4 people are literally starving. Owning a goat could be a bridge between life and death for many. It's these humble animals that will act as a key, opening the doorway of God-centred provision for entire villages.
What you can do
$40 buys a live goat and gets the ball rolling. $160 buys a starter herd of 4, immediately pulling a Turkanan family from poverty.
Through a local church, we will supply families with four goats: 3 female, 1 male, and the rest will happen as the Lord intended. Other than rabbits, goats are next in line for enthusiastic reproducing.
The first fruits born of those 3 females will be given back to the local church, who will give them to another family in need. This will start a cycle which will repeat and repeat, and repeat.
It will be a non-stop, high octane goat machine, and The Lord will have His foot on the gas.
